KNOW YOUR ENEMY WEBSITE PIC (5)

What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is a disease where abnormal cells in the breast grow uncontrollably. If not detected and treated early, it can spread to other parts of the body.

Signs & Symptoms to Watch Out For

Watch out for the following changes in your breast:

  • Lump or thickening in the breast or underarm
  • Change in breast size or shape
  • Skin changes such as dimpling, redness, or scaling
  • Nipple discharge (not breast milk)
  • Persistent or unusual breast pain

Risk Factors

You may have a higher risk if you have:

  • Age 40 years old and above
  • Family history of breast cancer
  • Unhealthy lifestyle (smoking, alcohol use, obesity)
  • No regular breast screening

Who Should Get Screened?

  • Women aged 40 and above
  • Women with family history of breast cancer
  • Individuals with breast changes or symptoms
  • Anyone who wants preventive screening

Screening (Early Detection)

Early detection can save lives. Available tests include:

  • 3D Mammography / Tomosynthesis – advanced imaging for early detection
  • Breast Ultrasound – checks lumps or abnormalities
  • Clinical Breast Examination – physical exam by a doctor

Diagnosis

  • Biopsy – A small tissue sample is taken and examined under a microscope to confirm cancer cells.

Treatment Options

Treatment depends on the stage and type of cancer:

  • Surgery – removal of cancer tissue (lumpectomy or mastectomy)
  • Chemotherapy – medicines that kill or slow cancer cells
  • Targeted Therapy – attacks specific cancer cell processes
  • Radiation Therapy – uses high-energy rays to destroy cancer cells

How to Lower Your Risk

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Exercise regularly
  • Avoid smoking and limit alcohol
  • Do regular self-breast examination
  • Get routine screening

Available Services at CMC

  • Breast Cancer Screening Packages
  • OB-Gyne & Specialist Consultation
