Last November 27, 2023, history was made in the field of urologic oncology as 27 urologists and radiation oncologists from the Urologist of Southern Tagalog and nearby hospitals gathered to participate in the first-ever High Dose Rate Interstitial Prostate Brachytherapy Workshop. Hosted by the Calamba Cancer Center of Calamba Medical Center, this groundbreaking event aimed to advance the knowledge and skills of medical professionals in the treatment of prostate cancer, particularly through the innovative technique of high dose rate interstitial brachytherapy. The workshop featured distinguished oncologists, Dr. Bennie Dick C. Catangay, a urologic oncologist, and Dr. Jose Roe Resubal, an esteemed radiation oncologist. Through comprehensive presentations and engaging discussions, the speakers shed light on the intricacies of high dose rate interstitial brachytherapy, emphasizing its efficacy, safety, and potential benefits for patients and demonstrated the actual procedure in performing prostate brachytherapy.
